Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks - Doll Parts and Hoe Hoe Hoe Swatches & Review

I was a bit slow off the mark when Jeffree Star launched his five piece holiday lipstick collection this year and like everyone else who missed out on the sell out shade Androgyny, I'm now kicking myself for it! I'm so glad that the brand really listened to their customers and very quickly made the decision to bring back the shade and make it permanent in February.

My husband bought me two of the other four shades in the collection for Christmas and I am completely in love with them.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks - Doll Parts and Hoe Hoe Hoe Swatches & Review

Formula overview:
These have a stellar formula! They're incredibly opaque, the consistency is neither too thick nor too thin, they're easy to control, non-tacky and have a quick dry down time. Once applied, they don't feather or smudge and wear for ages - everything I've wear tested from the brand so far has lasted at least five hours and some have even gone up to nine. Most shades aren't drying and I cannot detect any scent or taste to them.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks - Doll Parts and Hoe Hoe Hoe Swatches & Review

The packaging for the holiday collection is slightly different to the permanent line up, capped with glossy white instead of the usual Barbie pink. I really like the clear wand stem, I don't know why that really appeals to me in the grand scheme of things but there it is :D The doefoot applicator is slightly concave to hug the lips and evenly spread the lipstick and it's quite pointed, which makes it easy to be precise. You get a decent amount of product in here too, 5.6ml for $18USD - comparatively, a Lime Crime Velvetine is 2.6ml for $20USD.

Doll Parts

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks - Doll Parts Swatches & Review

Doll Parts is described as a 'cool pink'. It's a medium mauvey pink which applies flawlessly. I wasn't a hundred percent sure I'd like this colour on me initially but as soon as I tried it on I was so glad that I took the gamble (hubby is a guided shopper). Doll Parts has outstanding wear time, lasting for eight hours without touch ups, and was not drying.

Hoe Hoe Hoe

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks - Hoe Hoe Hoe Swatches & Review

Hoe Hoe Hoe is a deep red with purple and red sparkle. The glitter is visible when applied normally, but becomes more visible if you rub a finger or Q-tip gently across it. Similarly, as the lipstick slowly wears away over time the glitter comes through more strongly, which is in an effect I really like - a lipstick that looks even better over time?! Hell yes!
I wore Hoe Hoe Hoe on Christmas Day and it hung on through copious amounts of food with minimal touch ups. Without touch ups, it wears for five hours on me and is not drying.

What I liked:
  • Incredible colour pay off
  • Smooth, easy application
  • Non feathering
  • Non drying
  • Lasts between five and eight hours
  • Cruelty free and vegan
What I didn't like:
  • Nothing!
Where to buy:
  • Jeffree Star, RRP $18USD for 5.6ml (unfortunately sold out at the time of writing)
  • Ebay (best bet for sold out shades)
  • Also try Glambot for gently loved, limited edition or hard to find products

Did you pick up anything from the Jeffree Star holiday collection?

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint - Tango, Tease, Hot Mess, Feisty and Pin-Up Swatches & Review

It's high time I finished reviewing my collection of LA Girl Glazed Lip Paints! I love these for their high pigmentation, glossy finish and wallet friendly price, although the orange shades in this selection let down the team a bit. I previously reviewed them here and here and have four more to go after this post, so let's get to it!

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint - Tango, Tease, Hot Mess, Feisty and Pin-Up Swatches & Review

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint - Tango, Tease, Hot Mess, Feisty and Pin-Up Swatches & Review

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs

Formula overview:
The LA Girl Glazed Lip Paints offer 'super intense color' and an 'extra glossy finish', which these shades definitely deliver on. They come in squeezy tubes with a slanted plastic applicator. The applicator isn't very precise, so my preference is to use a lip brush first to outline my lips and then use the applicator to fill them in. I would have liked to see a sponge tip, like the Too Faced Melted lipsticks that these emulate have, or a doe foot applicator wand like the Australis Pout Pastes.

The Glazed Lip Paints have a light peppermint scent which mostly fades after an hour and they feel emollient on the lips - not tacky or sticky. I did have feathering issues with some of the shades, so a clear or coordinating lip liner may be necessary if you are prone to feathering too.

Tango

Tango is a medium coral with mostly opaque colour pay off. It wears for four and a half hours, isn't drying and does not feather.

Tease

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint - Tease Swatches & Review

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint - Tease Swatches & Review

Tease is a cool toned hot pink with large flecks of silver shimmer. The shimmer does give it a slightly gritty texture during application and causes it to grab at any dry patches, so you'll want to ensure your lips are well scrubbed before applying. Fortunately the grittiness is fairly minor and not something that I noticed for very long. Tease wore for four and a half hours without feathering or being drying and there were a few stray sparkles (maybe two or three) that had escaped the lip line by the end of wear.

Hot Mess

Hot Mess is a medium orange with mostly opaque colour pay off; there was some streaking and settling into lip lines. though this was less noticeable from a distance. It wore for four hours without feathering or being drying.

Feisty

Feisty is a vibrant tangerine orange with semi opaque colour pay off. It wore for three hours, settled into lip lines, feathered and migrated around the lip line. It was generally not a good time! Such a shame, as I love this shade of orange.

Pin-Up

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint - Pin-Up Swatches & Review

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint - Pin-Up Swatches & Review

Pin-Up is a vivid cherry red that is well named! It wore for three and a half hours on me with a very small amount of feathering and was not drying.

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint - Pin-Up Swatches & Review

What I liked:
  • Most shades had wonderful colour pay off
  • Non drying formula
  • Tease, Hot Mess and Tango did not feather
  • Wear time ranges between three and four and a half hours
What I didn't like:
  • Tease emphasised uneven texture and had a slightly gritty feeling
  • Hot Mess and Feisty settled into lip lines
  • Pin-Up and Feisty feathered, Feisty also migrated outside the lip line
Where to buy:
  • Amazon
  • Ebay
  • Selected pharmacies nationwide, RRP $8.99NZD
  • Love My Makeup (NZ)
Which of these colours is your favourite? I love the orange shades on, wish they'd performed better!

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer - Reckless, Halcyon, Kooky and Tranquility Swatches & Review

This is kind of a begrudging review, because I like the lipsticks and have already done all the work of editing photos and testing.... but I am seriously cross with the company. Recently Make Up Academy decided to reroute customers from their own UK based website to various stockists around the world, making it impossible to view (without the use of browser extensions), let alone shop on their own website the way I and many others have for years. This has led to me unsubscribing and unfollowing them on all channels, as none of their promotions are relevant to me any more (being as the stockists run their own specials), and when I've expressed my frustration at the changes on their social media pages they have ignored me outright.

New Zealand and Australian customers are now being redirected to Crush Cosmetics, an Australian website which sells most of the product range at a mark up and in Australian dollars, making it significantly more expensive for me as a New Zealand customer to try and purchase their products - rather at odds with the message MUA have been relaying about these changes being more cost effective for customers.

To demonstrate this, I downloaded a browser extension to trick the MUA website into thinking I was in the UK and created a demo cart containing nine Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers (despite the website redirects, they do still appear to ship internationally if you're willing to deal with the browser extension workaround). Here's how they added up on the different websites:

MUA: 9 lipsticks at ₤3 each + ₤8.50 shipping = ₤35.50/$77.47NZD (approx)
Crush Cosmetics: 9 lipsticks at $11AUD each + $11AUD shipping = $110AUD/$116.84NZD (approx)

Sooooo.... almost $40 more expensive. Now granted, MUA's website does have some shipping restrictions: the ₤8.50 shipping price is only available on orders under ₤30 and no nail polish can be included. On any orders over that the shipping cost jumps to ₤30, although this is a flat rate and has a guaranteed seven day delivery time, plus nail polish is allowed with this option. Even so, the hiked up prices on Crush Cosmetics along with the removal of choice and lack of response on MUA's part really hack me off. I'll publish the other reviews in my backlog to get the swatches out there, but I won't be purchasing any more from them.

Okay! If you made it through all that, job well done. Let's review these suckers and move on.

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer - Reckless, Halcyon, Kooky and Tranquility Swatches & Review

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs

Formula overview:
MUA's Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers are the brand's budget friendly answer to the liquid matte lipstick trend kicked off by brands like Lime Crime and Kat Von D, retailing for a mere ₤3 in the UK and on their website.
Their consistency is thicker and tackier than most brands I have tried and they have a long dry down time, taking about ten minutes to lose the last hint of shine and tackiness. It's best to keep your lips apart as much as possible during the dry down to prevent your lips sticking together and lifting sections of the colour. Initially to me they feel pretty thick and paint-like on the lips but once I get used to it they feel more comfortable. I find them to be quite easy to work with, they are pretty opaque on the whole and apply smoothly and layer up well.
As is to be expected with a matte lipstick, they can be a touch drying, but they don't feather and the lasting power is very good. The scent is sweet, faintly vanilla but mostly unplaceable chemical.

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer - Reckless, Halcyon, Kooky and Tranquility Swatches & Review

The packaging for these is a double walled frosted tube with a long wanded doefoot applicator. The ones I own have a matte black cap with the MUA Luxe logo and no text on the outside of the tube, but the brand appear to be gradually switching this over to a pewter cap with 'Velvet Lip Lacquer' printed on the exterior of the cap.

Reckless

Reckless is a blood red and is my favourite of these four, because I'm a sucker for a great red! It's nice and opaque, wears for close to five hours and is slightly drying.

What I liked:
  • Great colour pay off
  • Smooth application, layers well

What I didn't like:
  • Reckless, Tranquility and Kooky are drying

MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter - Pink Shimmer Swatches & Review

As per yesterday's post, I'm a bit cross with MUA and am trying to work through my backlog of reviews as quickly as I can. Today I'll be showing you the highlighter which launched with the Undress Your Skin range a few years ago. Unnamed at first, it was later renamed Pink Shimmer after additional shades were added to the line up.

MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter - Pink Shimmer Swatches & Review

The packaging is simple and sleek white plastic with a clear lid and a decent amount of product is included - 7.5g

MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter - Pink Shimmer Swatches & Review

I love the raised design of whorls and spirals, it makes the product feel much more special and luxurious than the meagre £3.00 it retails for on their website.

MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter - Pink Shimmer Swatches & Review

MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter - Pink Shimmer Swatches & Review

Pink Shimmer is a shell pink with brighter pink shimmer. The texture feels thin and dry in the pan, but applies smoothly without emphasising skin texture and blends out easily. The colour pay off is even and buildable, so you can wear it in a more subtle way or keep layering for a strobe effect. My sister wore it that way for Christmas Day and the effect was absolutely beautiful. The lasting power is truly impressive, wearing for thirteen hours on me and gradually fading away.

Lust Have It September 2015 Box Review

Lust Have It September 2015 Box Review

Whoops! I've gotten pretty behind on my Lust Have It box reviews, in no small part because the company has been all over the place the past few months with shipping delays and items missing. Today I'll be showing you the September 2015 box, which shipped midway through October and arrived toward the end of that month.

In case you haven't heard of or tried Lust Have It before, they're an Aussie based beauty subscription box company that promise to send out 5 to 6 samples per subscription box for $19.95AUD with a $2.95 postage charge (postage was previously free). The contents are a surprise, with Lust Have It aiming to provide you with an assortment of items you might not necessarily have picked up yourself (but will hopefully enjoy!).

The theme for September was 'on the go', so lots of travel friendly and long wearing products! My September Women's Beauty Box contained:
  • Ofra Lipliner RRP $19.50AUD (full size)
  • Designer Brands Twist n Go Nail Polish Remover RRP $4.95AUD (full size)
  • White Glo Professional Choice Whitening Toothpaste RRP $5.49AUD for full size (sample size included)
Goodness knows I could use some teeth whitening, but I haven't noticed a significant change with this yet (I have only been using it for a few weeks). It tastes fine though and does a good job of cleaning teeth.
  • Kerastase Resistance Bain Force Architecte RRP $42.00AUD for full size (sample size included)
  • Kerastase Resistance Masque Force Architecte RRP $62.00AUD for full size (sample size included)
  • UB Cosmetics Tint Stick RRP $23.00AUD (full Size)
  • Your Tea Skin Magic Tea RRP $35.00USD (for a box of 60). There are supposed to be six sachets included, but there was only one. In October they included a note on the card apologising and saying they were including the other five, but again, only one sachet arrived. Finally the remaining sachets arrived in the November box, but what a lot of mucking around! That being said, I haven't tried them as I'm really not a tea person but may pass them onto my sister.

First up is the Designer Brands Twist N Go nail polish remover, which is a pot of polish remover with a sponge inside so that you can dip your finger in, twist it around a few times and easily remove all your nail polish. To really put it to the test I tried it with a glitter laden polish (365 Days of Color Marshmallow & Lilypad) and it took 3-4 dips, but it did remove it. If you've ever used a glittery nail polish you'll know what a colossal pain in the butt they can be to remove, so I was pleased with the results. It works much more quickly and easily with regular cream and shimmer polishes.
A few criticisms; it promises to remove 'even the most stubborn nail polish in 1 second', which is a ridiculous and unrealistic claim - I can't think of many brands that could remove stubborn glitter, flakie and texture polishes without a decent amount of soaking first! It also claims to be moisturising which I didn't agree with either, you can see in the picture above that my cuticles look pretty dry. But for all that it is a convenient product and I'll keep using it - just don't expect miracles!

I'm always looking for hair products that will help with the condition and appearance of my hair so I'm looking forward to trying these, they smell really good too!

Universal Beauty tint stick swatch

This Universal Beauty Tint Stick has amazing colour pay off and wears really well! It also has a value of $23AUD which makes it worth more than the price of the box just on its own - pretty bargainous. Let me know if you'd like to see a full review on this.

Ofra Wine lip liner swatch

Finally we have the Ofra Lipliner in the shade Wine. I was pretty excited to try this because this brownish-rose hue is so on trend at the moment, but I found it to be quite a let down. When swatched on your arm or hand it feels fine, but on lips it's painfully stiff and takes a lot of layering to outline, let alone fill in lips - and all the while, it's tugging and dragging. Just not a good time.

All in all this was a pretty mixed bag for me. I was super excited for the cosmetics but the lipliner was a real let down. Still you can't win them all and it is a risk of these subscription services!

If you'd like to try this subscription out for yourself, you can use the code LANILOVES1 to get $5 off your first month at www.lusthaveit.com.au/ :)

Lust Have It October 2015 Review

Lust Have It October 2015 Review

Onwards with the Lust Have It review catch up! October wasn't without its hiccups but it was great to see them mostly getting back on track. After the September shipping notification advised that LHI already had the products for October ready to go in their Warehouse, I was a little surprised to receive an email from them at the end of October saying there had been an error and the expected items had been incorrectly marked as 'arrived'. However all was not lost, as they did have stock of some November items and chose to include them instead to get the boxes out on time. A bonus item was also promised (the chocolate candies pictured) along with a $10 discount coupon for the FAB or Eco boxes.

In my October box there was...
  • Hair&Me Hair Rejuvenation Treatment RRP $19.95AUD (90ml)
This is a really thick oil treatment, containing coconut, sweet almond, macadamia and almond oil. The instructions for use are fairly involved; you need to apply to damp hair and leave it on for a minimum of 45 minutes before you can rinse it out. Then you need to double shampoo it and condition as normal. It feels SO gross going on and the kids had a great time giggling at my greasy noggin, but the results are lovely - super soft hair with some restored shine, and there's no greasiness left over, which I was worried about!
  • Bioderma Sensibio Light Soothing Cream for Sensitive Intolerant Skin RRP $32.99AUD for full size (sample size provided)
This soothing cream sounds lovely for those with sensitive skin types. I'm guessing you could use it as a general moisturiser, but as I have a lot of skincare open at the moment, it'll be a while before I can give this a try.
  • Atkins Endulge Chocolate Candies RRP $9.00AUD for a pack of 5
This was a non beauty bonus item that my boys were very excited to see! Atkins Chocolate Candies are like M&Ms but with way less sugar - only 1g in the whole bag! I'm not a fan of M&Ms so I let Mike and the boys go nuts on them. Mike wasn't too keen on the taste but the boys loved them.
  • Flormar Nail Enamel RRP $12.00AUD
  • Flormar Eyeshadow RRP $30-50AUD
  • Lust Have It! Natural Highlighter in Sunset Strobe | RRP $29.95
  • Your Tea Skin Magic Tea RRP $35.00USD (for a box of 60).
In the September box there were supposed to be six but instead there was only one. In October they included a note on the card apologising and saying they were including the other five, but again, only one sachet arrived. Finally the remaining sachets arrived in the November box, but what a lot of mucking around! That being said, I haven't tried them as I'm really not a tea person but may pass them onto my sister.
Lust Have It Sunset Strobe Highlighter Review

Lust Have It Sunset Strobe Highlighter Review

This month marks the introduction of one of Lust Have It's in house products, a highlighter called Sunset Strobe. It's a very pretty pale gold with buildable colour pay off and a subtle sheen. I noticed it is very powdery in the pan, kicking up a lot of excess product pretty much the second your brush touches it, but this doesn't translate on the skin.
Despite liking the highlighter itself, I don't think it's at all worth the $29.95AUD RRP. The packaging arrived scuffed and scratched and feels flimsy, plus the powderiness causes a lot of product to be wasted.

Flormar Matte Terracotta M104 eyeshadow review

Flormar Matte Terracotta M104 eyeshadow review

The next cosmetic item I received is the Flormar Matte Terracotta eyeshadow in the shade M104, which is a lovely, softly shimmered pale pink (decidedly not matte). I used it on the inner corner in the makeup look above, and found it very easy to apply and blend, with a nice soft but not powdery texture.
There was a huge assortment of Flormar makeup that subscribers could receive in this box: the Eyeliner Pen, Mono Eyeshadow, Matte Terracotta Eyeshadow, Longlasting Lipstick, Pretty Compact Eyeshadow, Lip Gloss, Multi Effect Powder, Palette Eyeshadow, or Blush, with an RRP of $30-50AUD across the range. I'm wondering if the Matte Terracotta eyeshadow has been discontinued in this packaging, as it was pictured in a black compact on the Lust Have It site and on Ebay listings, and the compact I received is grubby, like it's been sitting in the bottom of a box at one of those makeup clearance bucket sales for months on end. I like this eyeshadow and will keep using it but I'm definitely not impressed at receiving two brand new products in downright dirty condition. I am very fortunate to receive this subscription free from Lust Have It's PR, but if I were a paying subscriber this would have me strongly considering cancelling my subscription.

Flormar 118 nail polish swatch

Who needs a time machine? Just pop on a few coats of Flormar 118 and you'll be instantly transported to the eighties, where this nail polish belongs. Jokes aside, the formula for this polish was a little runny and sheer but otherwise easy to control, with the brush covering the nail well. I used three coats, no topcoat.

On the whole I liked most of the products included in the October box, but the condition of some of the items was a let down. I hope this is something Lust Have It will remedy in the future.

If you'd like to try this subscription out for yourself, you can use the code LANILOVES1 to get $5 off your first month at www.lusthaveit.com.au/

YSL Rouge Pur Couture #55 Rouge Anonyme Lipstick Swatches & Review

If there's one thing I can never have enough of, it's red lipsticks (unless you ask my husband, he'll probably give you a different answer. Let's not ask him). I've become a bit more selective in recent times but was still unable to pass up this beautiful YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in the shade #55 Rouge Anonyme/Luminous Red when I found it on sale at Smith & Caugheys earlier in the year.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture #55 Rouge Anonyme Lipstick Swatches & Review

Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks are resplendent in luxurious gold packaging and have a soft close cap. The YSL logo etched into the bullet is a small touch that makes the lipstick that much more special.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture #55 Rouge Anonyme Lipstick Swatches & Review

Rouge Anonyme (Luminous Red in the US) is a pinky red with mostly opaque colour pay off and fine ruby shimmer. Like other shades in the Rouge Pur Couture range, Rouge Anonyme has a smooth formula with some slip, making application a breeze and the wear very comfortable. It's not so slippery as to cause feathering or unevenness though. Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks apply with the initial glossiness of a MAC Amplified, then settle to a satin finish over time. Rouge Anonyme wore for five and half hours.
YSL's strong mango scent you'll either love or hate - I'm definitely a fan but everyone's different, so you may wish to take a sniff at your nearest YSL counter before purchasing to see what you think.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture #55 Rouge Anonyme Lipstick Swatches & Review

What I liked:
  • Even colour pay off
  • Non drying
  • Non feathering
  • Smooth, easy to apply formula
  • Wears for five and a half hours
What I didn't like:
  • Nothing except the price ($59NZD)! YSL lipsticks are definitely a luxury buy, but worth it in my opinion.
Where to buy:

What do you think of Rouge Anonyme? What's your favourte red lipstick?

MAC Monday: Faerie Whispers - Spellbinder Blush and Fairy Land Foiled Shadow Swatches & Review

MAC's latest collection, Faerie Whispers perfectly captures an ethereal vibe with a palette of muted pastel and neutral tones and an overlay of sparkle. I was lucky enough to be sent two pieces from this collection, which launched last Monday on counters nationwide and I've been really enjoying using them, so let's take a peek!

Spellbinder

MAC Monday: Faerie Whispers - Spellbinder Blush Swatches & Review

I've long had a love affair with MAC's blushes, especially the satin finish ones like Spellbinder (Fleur Power and Modern Mandarin are among my favourites from the permanent range). They're pretty consistent in their quality and contain a decent amount of product for the price (6g for $48NZD/$22 in the US).

MAC Monday: Faerie Whispers - Spellbinder Blush Swatches & Review

Spellbinder is one of two blushes in this collection and it's described as a 'pastel yellow pink'. It's a beautiful soft peach with very fine shimmer and excellent colour pay off. I found it very easy to apply and diffuse, but it was unusually powdery, kicking up a lot of excess at the merest touch of my brush, although it didn't look powdery on the skin. Spellbinder wears for around eight hours on me, but is somewhat faded after five.

The eyeshadows featured in this collection are a new and limited edition wet/dry formula called Foiled Shadow. There are eight shades in all with an RRP of $50NZD ($20USD in the States) for 3g - in comparison, the regular eyeshadows are 1.3g ($38NZD/$16USD).

MAC Monday: Faerie Whispers - Fairy Land Foiled Shadow Swatches & Review

Fairy Land is described as a warm champagne, which sums it up nicely. It has fine, smooth shimmer accented by larger silvery glitter - though still quite fine in the scheme of things - somewhere between the Reflects and Glitter Brilliants range in size. It was very easy to work with and I didn't notice any fall out.

Fairy Land used on the inner corners with the Chi Chi Extravaganza palette and MAC's new Fluidline Pen in Vintage Brown.

MAC Monday: Faerie Whispers - Fairy Land Foiled Shadow Swatches & Review

Just for fun, I tried Fairy Land out as a cheek highlighter in this makeup look and paired it with Too Faced Spice bronzer and Peachy Keen blush, both from an old holiday palette. I had massive glittery fall out from a Makeup Revolution eyeshadow I used on my eyelids which sort of muddles up the effect from Fairy Land, whoops!

MAC Monday: Faerie Whispers - Fairy Land Foiled Shadow Swatches & Review

What I liked:
  • Great colour pay off
  • Spellbinder wore for eight hours
  • Easy to apply and blend
  • No glittery fall out from Fairy Land
What I didn't like:
  • Spellbinder looked a bit faded after five hours
  • Spellbinder was quite powdery in the pan

Lust Have It November 2015 review

Hey guys!

I have Lust Have It's November Womens Box to show you today and I'm pleased to say Lust Have It really upped their game for this one! My box was shipped on the 25th of November and arrived on the 3rd of December (previous boxes have arrived around the middle or toward the end of the following month). There's a good selection of products in here too.

In my November box there was...
  • Manna Kadar Liplocked Lippie Priming Wand RRP $24AUD | Full size | 6 shade options
  • Evelyn Iona Natural & Organic Concealer RRP $19.89AUD for full size | Deluxe sample
  • Coral Colours Love Lips RRP $6.99AUD | Full size | 6 shade options
  • Garnier Miracle Day Cream RRP $19.99AUD for full size | Deluxe sample
I haven't yet given this a try as I am rather bogged down with skincare at the moment, but it certainly sounds nice!
  • Ulta3 Cream Blush Stick RRP $6.95AUD | Full size | 4 shade options
  • Carefree Ultra Thins Regular RRP $4.29 | Bonus sample
Ultra thin and regular, after two kids? Hahahahahaha. But a nice thought.
  • Your Tea Skin Magic Tea RRP $35.00USD (for a box of 60).
In the September box there were supposed to be six bags of this tea but instead there was only one. In October they included a note on the card apologising and saying they were including the other five, but again, only one sachet arrived. Finally the remaining sachets arrived in this box, but what a lot of mucking around! That being said, I haven't tried them as I'm really not a tea person but may pass them onto my sister.
Lust Have It Cream Blush Stick - Pretty Pink review

Lust Have It Cream Blush Stick - Pretty Pink review

Lust Have It Cream Blush Stick - Pretty Pink review

First up we have my favourite from the November box - the Ulta3 Cream Blush Stick, which I received in the shade Pretty Pink. I've only tried a handful of Ulta3 products so far, yet they've consistently blown me away with the stellar quality, especially when they have such low prices! If you recall, their Volume & Length mascara was included in the August 2015 box and has been a fixture in my makeup bag since.
This blush stick has nice, buildable colour pay off and blends out really easily. The texture is pretty similar to The Body Shop's Lip & Cheek Velvet Sticks, they have that same velvety silica feel for a fraction of the cost but offering more product ($6.95AUD/5.8g vs $32NZD/4g). I'm curious to see whether the Blush Stick will work on lips now. I'll have to report back!

Manna Kadar Liplocked Lippie Priming Lip Wand - Amore review

Manna Kadar Liplocked Lippie Priming Lip Wand - Amore review

Next is the Manna Kadar Liplocked Lippie Priming Wand, simply called 'Lip Chubbie' on the Lust Have It information card. I'd never heard of Manna Kadar before so had a wee poke around her website and can't find this product any more, so perhaps it's been discontinued?  Lust Have It also mention this product being available for purchase on their website but I can't find it there either, all very puzzling!
Anyway, despite the lengthy name, this is a regular chubby stick type lipstick with super creamy and opaque colour pay off. I was impressed at how lovely it felt going on but wasn't a fan of the scent; it smells like those old roller ball lip glosses from the nineties.

Coral Colours Love Lips - Cotton Candy review

Coral Colours Love Lips - Cotton Candy review

Another lip product, yay! I'm not sure whether the Coral Colour Love Lips sphere is supposed to be a tinted lip balm or a lipstick, but whatever it is, I like it. I thought the rounded shape might make it difficult to apply neatly but it was actually really easy! It feels nice to apply too and is quite hydrating. I think the last time I tried a Coral Colours product was sometime in the nineties so it's nice to get reacquainted.

Evelyn Iona Natural & Organic Concealer Flawless swatch & review

I don't have much to say about this little concealer sample from Evelyn Iona as unfortunately it isn't the right colour for me! There are five shades available, according to the Evelyn Iona website, and Flawless, the colour I received is described as being 'for medium skin with beige undertones'. A randomly selected concealer (or foundation) shade seems like such a waste of time and product and frankly it baffles me that subscription services do this. Surely it wouldn't take much effort to ask customers to select a skin tone option when they sign up, or through a profile page? I know there are other subscriptions that allow you to do this, or mention colours you dislike and so forth to tailor the chosen products to you a little more. With a one in five chance of receiving the correct shade for your skin tone, I'm sure there are many subscribers now having to pass on this particular product instead of trying it out.

If you'd like to try this subscription out for yourself, you can use the code LANILOVES1 to get $5 off your first month at www.lusthaveit.com.au/

Jordana Lipsticks - Apricot Glaze, Pumpkin, Geranium, Hot Pink, Vivid Rose, Grape, True Red, Garnet and Cabaret Swatches & Review

Jordana's lipsticks may be cheap as chips but that doesn't stop them from being super pigmented! If you've been curious about whether these bargain beauties are worth it, I've collected up a few shades to review for you today.

Jordana Lipsticks - Apricot Glaze, Pumpkin, Geranium, Hot Pink, Vivid Rose, Grape, True Red, Garnet and Cabaret Swatches & Review

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs

Formula overview:
These lipsticks vary a bit in texture, the older shades are very firm and have no slip, although they don't drag or tug at the lip. I find I typically need to apply Jordana lipsticks more firmly than I would other brands. The newer shades (Apricot Glaze, Vivid Rose and Creamy Berries) are much smoother and creamier. This line of lipsticks have a sweet, vaguely fruity scent with a strong castor oil smell, which I really dislike.

Jordana's packaging leaves a lot to be desired; it's lightweight, plastic and the caps are rather flimsy. I've kept a tube of Matte Pink Passion in my makeup bag for a few years and the cap has a multitude of cracks.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil - Bouquet Swatches & Review

Bite Beauty's products are like a can of Pringles, once you try one, it's hard to stop! I've been steadily picking up little bits and pieces from their range over a the past year and so far there's not been a single dud. Bouquet is a shade I scooped up on an impulse from a friend's destash without too much thought - I certainly never expected to be as in love with it as I am!

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil - Bouquet Swatches & Review

High Pigment Pencils come in Bite's regular matte black packaging, which has a rubberized feeling similar to a lot of NARS products (although it hasn't been nearly as difficult to keep clean!). The lipstick winds up and retracts smoothly and the twisting mechanism is tinted to roughly match the colour inside.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil - Bouquet Swatches & Review

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil - Bouquet Swatches & Review

Bouquet is a peachy pink with a satin finish and excellent colour pay off. Officially the High Pigment Pencils are supposed to have a 'modern matte' finish but I wouldn't describe them as such, there's a lot more shine going on than other 'modern mattes' on the market at the moment. That's not to say I don't like the finish, of course - the High Pigment Pencils have a beautiful, creamy texture that seems to melt against your lips and has just the right amount of slip, so they're a pleasure to apply and wear.
The scent is very light and citrusy - if that has you thinking of cringing and thinking of cleaning products, rest assured it's a much more natural and subtle scent, they're nothing alike! Bouquet lasted for just under four hours on me, didn't bunch or feather and was lightly hydrating.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil - Bouquet Swatches & Review

What I liked:
  • Excellent colour pay off
  • Creamy, smooth formula
  • Lightly hydrating
  • Wears for just under four hours on me
  • Doesn't feather or bunch

What I didn't like:
  • Nothing!

Bourjois New Releases - Mega Swatch & Review Post!

Bourjois New Releases

Cult Parisian brand Bourjois finally landed on our shores toward the end of 2015, bringing a veritable candy store of gorgeous products. I was fortunate to be sent a generous selection from across the range to try out, so I have some snapshot reviews for you today. If there's anything you'd like a full review for, please let me know!

Bourjois New Releases

Bourjois New Releases

Bourjois Sweet Kiss Lip Gloss - Rose Qui Peut swatch & review

Bourjois Sweet Kiss Lip Gloss - Orange Pressee swatch & review

First up we have the Sweet Kiss Gloss (RRP $27NZD), a non sticky and hydrating formula which launched in November. It's available in six shades - pictured are Rose Qui Peut and Orange Pressee (my favourite!). The colour pay off is sheer and even and they have a sweet and slightly fruity perfume scent. These feel super nice going on and the brush applicator makes it really easy to be precise. Expect about two hours wear from these.

Bourjois Blush - Rose d'or swatch & review

I've lusted after Bourjois' blush and eyeshadow pots for years so I'm super excited to finally be able to browse the range in person! Here I'm wearing the shade Rose d'Or, a gorgeous rose pink filled with heavy gold shimmer. It has beautiful, even colour pay off and can be built up and sheered out readily for a natural flush. Decent lasting power, too - over eight hours. Bourjois blushes do have a strong perfume scent which may be a turn off to some, but personally I love it, it adds to the vintage glamour vibe for me.

Bourjois Aqua Blush - Berry Nice swatch & review

Bourjois Aqua Blush - Cocori Corail swatch & review

These Aqua Blushes (RRP $28NZD) are among Bourjois' newest products, launching last November with the Swimming Cool Collection. They're unique gel stains which are supposed to offer twelve hour wear and they feel refreshingly cool on the skin. If you're a fan of a dewy, natural look, you'll definitely want to check these out! The two shades I have, Cocori Corail and Berry Nice are very pigmented, yet they can be sheered out very easily and they blend like a dream, lasting around ten hours on my combination normal/oily skin.

Bourjois Rouge Edition - Hot Pepper lipstick swatch & review

I'm sure the Rouge Edition Velvet lipstick needs no introduction as this range has been wildly popular since its launch! I have the shade Hot Pepper which is a heart stopping warm red similar to shades like MAC Lady Danger and Viva Glam Miley Cyrus - definitely one of my favourite colour families.
Hot Pepper boasts great colour pay off and a respectable wear time of around five hours although it is slightly drying. I'm liking the scent, which brings to mind fresh orange and passionfruit juice on a hot day.

Bourjois Push Up Volume Glamour mascara review

Bourjois Push Up Volume Glamour mascara review

Bourjois' 1001 Cils held the crown for favourite mascara in this beauty addict's world for quite some time (I believe I've polished off three or four tubes now and still have two back ups!), so I was eager to try Push Up Volume Glamour mascara and see how it held up. And I'm pretty happy with it! I notice a small amount of smuding under my eyes after around seven hours wear, but it gives my stubborn straight lashes a great amount of lift without clumping. What I particularly like is how the brush deposits a lot of colour at the base of the lashes so that there's no annoying gap between lash colour and liner, plus it makes them appear fuller. So not perfect, but pretty darn good!

Bourjois Air Mat foundation swatches & review

Bourjois Air Mat foundation swatches & review

Unfortunately neither of the shades I received of Bourjois' new Air Mat foundation (RRP $33NZD), which launched in November, perfectly match me. I have #02 Vanilla (which I'm wearing in the full face picture) and #04 Beige and there are six shades in total, so I'll have to check out the lightest shade, #01 Rose Ivory, next time I'm at Farmers. I still tested Air Mat for wear and I really liked it! It has good coverage and blends with skin very naturally, lasting for nine hours before showing any signs of wear. If you can find a shade match it's well worth checking out.

Bourjois Liner Feutre swatches & review

Bourjois Liner Feutre swatches & review

You guys know how much I love my liquid eyeliner and Bourjois' Liner Feutre has winged its way into my makeup bag with its excellent opacity and handy felt tip format. I don't think I can ever go back to the old brush style liquid eyeliners, I'm way too hooked on the convenience and easy application that comes with felt tips!  Wear time is really great, it holds up well on my horrendously oily eyelids without any creasing, fading or transfer over the course of the day.

Bourjois La Laque - Orange, Beach Violet nail polish swatches & review

Bourjois La Laque - Orange, Beach Violet nail polish swatches & review

Finally we have the latest product to hit stands: the La Laque polish range has just been released this month, with six shades currently available. If you're a polish fan and love bold, glossy cremes definitely take a peek. They're quite long wearing too! They have a wide brush which will please those who like to paint in one quick stroke; personally, as a slow and careful nail painter I found it a bit cumbersome and difficult to get a neat nail line with - but it can be done. Pictured are Beach Violet (left) and Orange (right), three coats each without top coat..

Bourjois is now available in New Zealand at selected Farmers stores nationwide - you can find a list of stores here. You can also find a small range at Mighty Ape and international shoppers can check out their website or Amazon and Ebay.

Anything tickle your fancy here? Don't forget to let me know what you'd like to see full reviews for!

Maybelline Colorsensational Creamy Matte Lipstick - Nude Embrace, Daringly Nude, Touch of Spice, Mesmerizing Magenta, Craving Coral, Siren in Scarlet and Divine Wine Swatches & Review

Matte will forever and always be my favourite lipstick finish, so I was super excited when Maybelline brought out their range of Creamy Matte lipsticks in the States last year. I promptly bought a bunch of them from one of my favourite Trade Me sellers, splashstore, loved them, and then forbade myself from buying any more until I'd finished writing up a review. A policy I should probably adopt more often, LOL. Now there are even more shades out overseas! I hope we get them all here. Always late to the party, I think New Zealand will finally get these in the next month or so.

Maybelline Colorsensational Creamy Matte Lipstick - Nude Embrace, Daringly Nude, Touch of Spice, Mesmerizing Magenta, Craving Coral, Siren in Scarlet and Divine Wine Swatches & Review

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs

Formula overview:
These lipsticks feel very creamy and cushiony gliding on the lips - there's none of that dry, stiff, dragging texture that matte lipsticks are often associated with. The lighter shades can be slightly unforgiving of flaky lips but on the whole they're very easy to work with and they have excellent colour pay off across the board. They have a sweet, lightly honeyed scent.

Daringly Nudeis a dusty pinky nude, which, like Nude Embrace, also emphasized flakiness somewhat. It wears for a bit over four hours and is not drying. This is my favourite of the two nudes, I adore pinky-peachy nudes and find this one super flattering.

Maybelline Colorsensational Creamy Matte Lipstick - Touch of Spice Swatches & Review

Touch of Spiceis a medium rosy brown, which totally nails the 90s lip trend. I love it although it has been a bit of a gateway lippy into more brown lippies! Never thought I'd say that. It wears for six hours and is slightly drying.

Mesmerizing Magenta

Maybelline Colorsensational Creamy Matte Lipstick - Mesmerizing Magenta Swatches & Review

Maybelline Colorsensational Creamy Matte Lipstick - Mesmerizing Magenta Swatches & Review

Mesmerizing Magentais a medium magenta pink with fine shimmer. I took a gamble when I bought this as there weren't many swatches around at the time (I've been sitting on these swatches way too long) so the shimmer was a surprise, but it's quite nice. Not at all frosty and it doesn't accentuate uneven texture. Mesmerizing Magenta wears for four hours without drying out my lips or feathering.

Maybelline Colorsensational Creamy Matte Lipstick - Craving Coral Swatches & Review

Craving Coralis a vermillion orange with mostly opaque colour pay off. I really love this colour, it's one of my favourites from the range and I can't really think of anything quite like it either! It wears for eight hours on me without being drying.

Maybelline Colorsensational Creamy Matte Lipstick - Divine Wine Swatches & Review

Divine Wineis a dark burgundy red and is one of my other favourite shades from this selection (yes, I know I have a lot of favourites today, but I reeeeaaaally like this lipstick formula!). It wears for seven and a half hours on me, isn't drying and doesn't feather.

LUSH Best Wishes Gift Review

LUSH Best Wishes Gift Review

I'm a bit behind on posting about the LUSH Best Wishes Gift but hopefully not too late! LUSH have had some amazing sales going on both in store and on their website, so you may still be able to snag this gift or some of the contents. This gift set is definitely one for bath lovers, containing three bath bombs and a bubble bar. We're big bath lovers in this house and my kids were more than happy to help me road test this gift set.

LUSH Best Wishes Gift Review

For the RRP of $35.90NZD (or less if you can snag it in the 50% off sale) you receive four products with a combined value of $35.80, so you're basically spending that extra 10 cents on some sweet gift wrapping - it even comes with a gift tag so you're good to go!

LUSH Star Dust Bath Bomb Review

Star Dust Bath Bomb ($7.50NZD) may look unassuming but don't let it fool you - inside this vanilla and bergamot scented concoction are dozens of tiny multi coloured stars that shoot out across the tub as the bath bomb dissolves in jets of white and blue foam. It'll tint your bath water a pale sky blue and make it super sparkly - the kids loved trying to spot all the leftover sparkle on their skin after getting out of the bath. It's quite subtle though, so you won't feel too much like a disco ball.

LUSH Yog Nog Bath Bomb Review

Yog Nog Bath Bomb ($7.90NZD) is a follow on from the original Yog Nog soap (one of my favourite LUSH soaps of all time!). The exterior looks like a pretty Christmas bauble in lightly shimmered sandy gold and white and a raised Christmas decoration design and it's fragranced with ylang ylang and clove, reading as a spicy toffee to my nose. Once you pop it in your tub you get a bit of a surprise as instead of turning the water a soft yellow as you might expect it goes a super bright, almost neon yellow! At the very centre of the bath bomb there's a bath melt, making this bath bomb an excellent choice for a super moisturising soak.

LUSH Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb Review

Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb ($7.90NZD) was Noel and Patrick's favourite of the selection in this box: initially you get heaps of bright green foam, but as the bath bomb continues to disintegrate you'll see heaps of magenta purple swirling out too, which had them cackling and squealing with glee! The smaller pastel sections you see are supposed to be 'popping candies' although we didn't notice much of an effect from those. I wasn't overly fond of the patchouli and black pepper scent but the kids didn't mind and the dramatic effect pretty much made up for it!

LUSH Holly Go Lightly Bubble Bar Review

Holly Go Lightly Bubble Bar ($12.50NZD) is the sole bubble bar in the Best Wishes gift and is shaped like a Christmas pudding, complete with holly leaves and berries! I've waxed lyrical about our love for LUSH Bubble Bars on many occasions (Noel shared some of his favourites in this post) so we were really excited to try this one. Holly Go Lightly is fragranced with spicy clove, cinnamon and patchouli oil and is coated with a tonne of silver sparkle which makes for a very festive bath, especially as Holly Go Lightly also turns bath water bright teal green! This is definitely on the repurchase list for next year, or sooner if we stumble across it in store :)

Did you pick up any of these over the holiday season? Are you stalking the LUSH sale?

Darling Girl Snow in Love Collection - Baby Blushes and Lip Conditioner Swatches & Review

Darling Girl Snow in Love Collection - Baby Blushes and Lip Conditioner Swatches & Review

Darling Girl released an absolutely massive collection for the holidays and it's taken me a fair while to work my way through trying and testing everything but I think you'll agree it's worth the wait :D Snow In Love is inspired by the classic Tim Burton film Edward Scissorhands and it's quite the homage, spanning twelve eyeshadows, two Baby Blushes, a Lip Conditioner and two Pucker Paints. I have the Baby Blushes and Lip Conditioner to show you today.
A quick note - Susan at Darling Girl recently announced that she will begin seasonally retiring the holiday collections and bringing them back at later dates. Snow in Love will be available in the shop until the end of month and return next holiday season.

I have the colours from this collection in PR sample clamshells, so I thought I'd show you what the full size version looks like so you can get a better idea of it! The pictured shade is Right Meow, which you can find reviewed here.
Baby Blushes come in a squeeze tube with a doefoot applicator wand. This doubles your application options as not everyone is keen to apply the same product to their lips and cheeks, so Darling Girl suggest squeezing product directly from the tube in this case. Otherwise, simply dab the doefoot applicator on cheeks and blend out with a brush or fingers - I like the ELF stippling brush but it works just as well with your fingers.
The formula is such that it doesn't displace your base products when you blend with your fingers the way some cream blushes do. The doefoot applicator makes it super easy to apply Baby Blush evenly and precisely to lips, I did use lip brushes for these swatches because they're samples, but have had no trouble applying neat from the tube with my full size Baby Blush.

Formula overview:
Most shades are highly pigmented yet can be sheered out readily, making them very versatile: gradient lip, tint effect, full colour or sheered out, they work wonderfully for lots of styles. Baby Blushes have an orange scent which is very strong, and while I do like oranges, I wish the scent was a bit more subdued. Unfortunately this isn't possible as orange peel wax and oil are some of the main ingredients. I don't notice the fragrance much past application when worn on my cheeks, but worn on the lips, it does linger quite a lot - unsurprisingly with it right under your nose! I don't find them drying and wear time tends to be average (around 4 hours) on the lips but excellent on cheeks with the opaque shades (nine + hours). Snuggle In Sweetie, the sole translucent shade, had a much shorter wear time at five hours.

Show & Tell

Darling Girl Show & Tell Baby Blush Swatches & Review

Show & Tell is described as a 'cran-cherry red'. It's incredibly pigmented for an opaque finish on lips yet it sheers out easily for a beautiful flush on cheeks. On my lips it lasted for four hours without feathering (always an impressive feat with anything super pigmented and glossy!) and had mostly worn down to a stain by the end of wear. When I wore it as a blush, Show & Tell lasted for nine hours.

Darling Girl Snuggle In Sweetie, It's Cold Out There Baby Blush Swatches & Review

Snuggle In Sweetie, It's Cold Out There is described as a 'sparkling, frosty white with a plethora of blue frostbitten sparkles that leave an ethereal glow on your cheeks or lips.' I wore it as a highlight with Right Meow Baby Blush in the makeup looks below and you'll have to trust me when I say it is SO cool. The highlight was quite hard to capture on camera but is definitely more visible in person. I noticed this one felt a touch stickier on cheeks but not so much so that it was sticking to my hair or anything - it just didn't seem to set completely on my cheeks like my other Baby Blushes. Snuggle In Sweetie lasted for four hours on lips and just under five on cheeks.

Darn That Stuff!

Darn That Stuff! ($4USD) is a lip conditioner with a peach pie scent, and I mean seriously peach pie, with ripe, juicy peaches, the bite of spicy ginger and a creme brulee base all coming through strongly. Darling Girl recommend this as a mask or leave on lip treatment and it feels absolutely wonderful on the lips, it's incredibly hydrating.
Again, I have a sample clamshell, but the full size products is an oval lip balm tube with special artwork.

What I liked:

  • Show & Tell wore for nine hours on cheeks
  • Snuggle in Sweetie and Show & Tell wore for four hours on lips
  • Non drying formula - even lightly hydrating
  • Darn That Stuff! Lip Conditioner feels great on lips, very hydrating
  • Baby Blushes apply and blend beautifully
  • Both Baby Blushes have excellent, even colour pay off.

What I didn't like:

  • Snuggle in Sweetie wears for just five hours on cheeks
  • Snuggle in Sweetie feels slightly sticky on cheeks

What do you think of these products? Are you going to pick up anything from the Snow in Love collection before it retires?

Sephora launches in NZ! Haul, Swatches & Review

You guys, it's finally happened. Sephora has made its debut in New Zealand in the form of an online store! YESSSSSSSSS! Are you pumped? I'm as pumped as David Bowie doing the Magic Dance (*sobs quietly* RIP Bowie!).

If you've ever shopped with Luxola you'll be excited to hear that they have rebranded to Sephora NZ, continuing to stock many of the brands you already knew and loved and adding in a bevy of new ones, with more being added regularly. Suddenly we have amazing cult brands at our fingertips with fast shipping ($25, or free on orders over $75NZD) and the prices are actually pretty on par with the US and Aussie ones. For example, a Kat Von D Studded Kiss lipstick is $21USD, roughly $32.50NZD - so Sephora NZ is 50 cents cheaper! When most brands have huge mark ups here compared to our overseas counterparts (I'm looking at you MAC, L'Oreal, Revlon, Bobbi Brown... okay, well pretty much all of you), even keel pricing definitely catches my attention.

I was very fortunate to be asked by the Sephora NZ team to select some products for review and share my thoughts with you, so without further a do, let's take a peek at the haul!

Kat Von D Monarch eyeshadow palette swatches & review

First up we have the Kat Von D Monarch eyeshadow palette ($67NZD), which has been on my wishlist since it came out. I don't know why it took me so long but I'm so happy to have my hands on it now - it definitely doesn't disappoint! There are twelve shades in this palette broken up into three quads to make it easy to put together a cohesive look, though of course you can mix and match as you please. Across the board, the colour pay off is excellent and the eyeshadows are a pleasure to apply and blend. There are only three shades that I think could be improved: Summerfly and Tiny Death, which contain specks of glitter that don't really adhere to the skin and are very prone to fall out, and Wrath which feels drier in texture than the rest of the shades. That's not to say any of them are bad eyeshadows, it's just that compared to the buttery smooth texture of the remaining shades they fall a little flat.

Kat Von D Monarch eyeshadow palette swatches & review

For this look I used Tiny Death all over the lid, with Disintegration on the outer half of the lid/lower lashline and Vanish along the socket line. I blended Shadow Box into the crease and added just a touch of Deadhead to deepen, used Entomology to soften the edges, then highlighted the inner corner with Telepathy. The lashes are Ardell Demi Wispies and brows are Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Soft Brown, both also available at Sephora NZ.

For this look I used Entomology all over the lid and to blend out the other colours, Summerfly on the inner half of lid/inner half of lower lashline, Wrath on the outer half of the lid, Papilio on the outer V/outer half of lower lashline, Vanish on the socket line and Telepathy on the inner corner.

Becca Afterglow Palette

Becca Afterglow palette swatches & review

Becca Afterglow palette swatches & review

Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfectors have been wildly popular over the past year or so and I've been eager to try them, so I couldn't look past the Becca Afterglow Palette ($72NZD), which pairs three Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfectors with a duo of Mineral Blushes. The packaging is pretty cool off the bat, with a holographic rainbow flakie effect on the box and a metallic bronze case that feels quite sturdy. Inside there's a large mirror and five pans which are just a smidge smaller in width than a standard dome top blush brush.
The Skin Perfectors included are Moonstone, an ivory-champagne with gold reflects, Rose Gold, which is exactly that, and Topaz, a warm bronzed gold. All of them share a creamy texture, strong finely milled shimmer and impressive pigmentation that can be built up for an intense highlight or worn in a more subtle fashion.
The blushes are lovely too and have a very soft (but not powdery) feeling to them that allows them to be diffused perfectly. The two shades are Wild Honey, a tawny brown with fine silver shimmer and Flowerchild, a classic gold shimmered coral pink. I wasn't sure I'd like Wild Honey but I actually really love it! The sun kissed look it gives is quite flattering.
This palette definitely has me interested in trying out more of Becca's range and I can see myself using this a lot, especially on trips or doing makeup for family members as the colour range will suit a variety of skintones. I averaged around eleven hours wear time across this palette.

Becca Afterglow palette swatches & review

For this look I wore Flowerchild on cheeks and Moonstone to highlight, paired with the Australis AC On Tour contour palette.

Becca Afterglow palette swatches & review

And for this one, I used Wild Honey on cheeks with Rose Gold as a highlight and a very small amount of Moonstone on the highest points of my cheeks and browbone. I also used a little bit of Topaz as a bronzer.

Kat Von D Noble Studded Kiss Lipstick

Kat Von D Noble Studded Kiss Lipstick swatches & review

Ohhhhhh Kat Von D, how I adore your Studded Kiss lipsticks ($32NZD)! I bought the 2014 holiday mini set and was rapidly hooked. The glossy black studded packaging and KVD logo engraved in the lipstick bullet are awesome enough on their own, but they also have incredible colour pay off and the creme brulee scent is heavenly. Noble, a soft peachy nude, is a shade I've had my eye on for a while now and it's just as lovely as I'd hoped! The matte finish keeps it soft and natural, not stark, although it can be somewhat unforgiving if your lips aren't in the best shape, as mine weren't when I shot these. The wear time certainly makes up for that, Noble lasted seven hours on me without being drying!

Bite Beauty Pastille Rosebud Matte Creme Lipstick

Bite Beauty Pastille Rosebud Matte Creme Lipstick swatches & review

Bite Beauty Pastille Rosebud Matte Creme Lipstick swatches & review

Last but certainly not least we have Pastille Rosebud from the Matte Creme Lipstick range ($34NZD), a vibrant pinky red with a glossy finish. I've been completely enamoured with Bite Beauty's products since I first tried them so I was thrilled to see them available on Sephora NZ and if you're a lipstick lover you will be too! The packaging is rubberized, like NARS products but doesn't seem to pick up marks as readily and there's a B embossed in the lipstick bullet. Pastille Rosebud offers wonderfully rich colour pay off, a seven hour wear time and a non feathering, nourishing formula. Needless to say, I need one of every shade.

I'd love to hear what's on your Sephora NZ wishlist! Will any of these be going on your list?

Karen Murrell - Poppy Passion Lipstick Swatches & Review

Continuing my ongoing love affair with Karen Murrell lipsticks is Poppy Passion, a vibrant coral pink perfect for these gorgeous summer days we're having. I've reviewed heaps of Karen Murrell lipsticks in the past and they always impress - why not check out some of the other shades while you're here?

Karen Murrell - Poppy Passion Lipstick Swatches & Review

Poppy Passion is described as a 'vivid red-pink'. It's a warm honeysuckle pink with hints of coral and Karen Murrell's usual buildable and even coverage. I think it might just be one of my new favourites in the line (and knocking Rymba Rhythm from its perch is no easy feat!). It wears for four and a half hours on me and is not drying.

Karen Murrell - Poppy Passion Lipstick Swatches & Review

What I liked:
  • Great colour pay off
  • Smooth application
  • Non drying
  • Easy on the conscience! The lipstick itself is made with natural ingredients and the packaging has been created with biodegradable materials from sustainable sources.
  • Doesn't migrate or gather around the lips
  • Wears between four to four and a half hours
What I didn't like:
  • Nothing!

Darling Girl Snow in Love Collection Swatches & Review: Part One

Darling Girl released an absolutely massive collection for the holidays and it's taken me a fair while to work my way through trying and testing everything but I think you'll agree it's worth the wait! Snow In Love is inspired by the classic Tim Burton film Edward Scissorhands and it's quite the homage, spanning twelve eyeshadows, two Baby Blushes, a Lip Conditioner and two Pucker Paints. I have the eyeshadows to show you today and you can find my review of the Baby Blushes and Lip Conditioner here.

There's a huge variety of colours and finishes in this collection, with some brighter pops of colour reminiscent of the cheery suburbia depicted in the film and more muted and neutral tones. Lots of cooler colours, which is always a good challenge for me as warmer hues are definitely my comfort zone! Overall I think there's something for everyone here. My favourites wound up being Avon Calling, Because You Asked, Haircut Anyone and I'm Not Finished. I'd love to hear yours!

Susan at Darling Girl recently announced that she will begin seasonally retiring the holiday collections and bringing them back at later dates. Snow in Love will be available in the shop until the end of month and return next holiday season.

All shimmery eyeshadows are swatched over bare skin on the left and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy on the right. Pixie Epoxy is a sticky eyeshadow base designed to grab onto and intensify glitter and shimmer, Darling Girl have their own Glitter Glue which is a similar product - I'm just using what I currently have handy! The mattes are applied on bare skin and I photograph everything under daylight bulbs.

Formula wise, Darling Girl are incredibly consistent. I've never come across a dud in the range (and I've accumulated an embarrassing amount) and they are, on the whole, very pigmented and easy to work with. Some shades, especially the more glittery ones perform best over a sticky base but can certainly be used on their own. I almost always use a sticky base on my eyelids with any shimmery indie eyeshadow, but prefer not to use one on my lower lashline, so that's what you'll see in the makeup looks unless otherwise noted.

He Skewered Kim is a golden champagne with excellent opacity and a soft, buttery texture. I wore this on the lid in the makeup look further down, but it would be a gorgeous inner corner highlight or even on cheeks!

I'm Not Finished

Darling Girl He Skewered Kim eyeshadow swatches & review

I'm Not Finished is a medium brown matte shade which works wonderfully as a transition shade. I've been really enjoying exploring more of Darling Girl's matte formula lately and I've been so impressed! They are incredibly soft and blendable while still maintaining excellent colour pay off.

We're Not Sheep

We're Not Sheep is a clean matte white with excellent opacity and texture. It's ultra blendable and not chalky in the slightest.

For this look I used heaps of Darling Girl! He Skewered Kim on the inner half of the lid, I'm Not Finished on the crease and We're Not Sheep on the inner corner. The colour used on the outer half of the lid is The Apocalypse... Not, a discontinued shade.

Backroom Striptease is a slightly muted aqua with pink sheen. Although it's not a dupe for Haircut Anyone? the colour combination seems similar enough that I don't think both were really necessary in the same collection.

Dancing in the Snow

Dancing in the Snow is a cool white with pink sheen and iridescent glitter. Absolutely gorgeous! I can never resist super shimmery whites like this.

Darling Girl Dancing in the Snow, Backroom Striptease eyeshadow swatches & review

For this look I used Dancing in the Snow on the inner corner with Backroom Striptease on the inner half of the lower lash line. The main lid colour is another Darling Girl shade, Love's A Witch - unfortunately discontinued! I've also used a MAC Colourdrenched Pigment called Tonight's the Night on the outer half of the lower lashline and a MAC eyeshadow, Evening Aura, on the inner third of the lid.

Blending Is The Secret

Blending is the Secret is a periwinkle blue with strong pink shimmer. I have a weakness for periwinkle/cornflower blues like this, even though they're not terribly flattering on me. Maybe it's a sentimental thing - my mum loves this kind of colour! Whatever the reason, I'm digging Blending is the Secret, which gets its name from one of my favourite scenes in the movie. This one's best over a sticky base for maximum sparkle.

Haircut Anyone?

Haircut Anyone? is a teal green with strong violet shimmer - it reminds me a lot Rescue Beauty Lounge Aqua Lily nail polish! It's strongly pigmented with or without a sticky base, but the violet sheen is so much stronger with one.

Darling Girl Haircut Anyone?, Blending is the Secret eyeshadow swatches & review

This was a fun, bright look to wear! I used Haircut Anyone? on the inner half of the lid and Blending is the Secret on the inner half of the lower lashline with several other Darling Girl shades: Basket Case on the outer half of the lower lashline (permanent) and Ugly Naked Guy on the crease, Crap Bag on the outer half of the lid and I Wasn't Supposed To Tell Her? on the inner corner (all from the upcoming Friends Central collection).

I used Because You asked as a cheek highlight here. It's super sparkly and blingy as a cheek highlight, so possibly not everyone's cup of tea, but I had fun wearing it!

Razor Sharp Karate Chop is a super sparkly metallic silver with incredible pay off and performance both alone and over a base. Oddly I don't have much in the way of silver eyeshadow, so this is a welcome addition to my collection!

Scissors, Paper, Stone

Darling Girl Scissors Paper Stone swatches & review

Darling Girl Scissors Paper Stone swatches & review

Scissors, Paper, Stone is a cool grey with a matte base and heaps of pink shimmer. On its own it's a pale dove grey, while over a sticky base it becomes much deeper and smokier in tone.

Darling Girl Razor Sharp Karate Chop, Scissors Paper Stone swatches & review

I decided to put the greys in this collection into a smokey eye, which is definitely out of my comfort zone but I actually quite liked it in the end! I used Scissors, Paper, Stone over a sticky base on the inner half of the lid and Razor Sharp Karate Chop on the inner corner and inner half of lower lashline. I also used Still Fangirling (a previous COTM shade) on the outer half of the lid, a L'Oreal Smokissime Liner (Taupe Smoke) very lightly to line my upper lashline and the Chi Chi Extravaganza palette for transition shades.

Avon Calling is a light lavender purple with a plethora of blue shimmer and larger iridescent sparkles. It applies really nicely on its own and the sparkle adheres well but if you really want to bring the glitter out to play, go for the sticky base!

This Is Lemonade? is a buttery yellow which takes on some mustard tones when applied over a sticky base. It's speckled with strong pink shimmer and is very easy to work with.

For my final look for this collection, I paired This is Lemonade? on the inner half of the lid with Fira (discontinued) and Bob-B-Q (past COTM) on the outer half and centre of the lid respectively. As if Avon Calling wasn't already gorgeous enough on its own, I smudged black liner along my lower lashline and patted Avon Calling over that, which brings out all the incredible blue shimmer. I also used Slave For Sensation from the Matte I'd Like To Find collection as a transition shade.

Darling Girl This is Lemonade, Avon Calling eyeshadow swatches & review

The Snow in Love collection is available at Darling Girl until the 31st of January.  Darling Girl eyeshadows are available in two sizes: the full size jar ($6USD) is 5g with a sifter and special artwork, a Petit jar ($2.50USD) is 3g with no sifter and a standard DG lid sticker.

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Ambrosia Salad, The Spice, Eat You Up and Poison Slapple Swatches & Review

Hey babes,

You know I can't resist the allure of new shades of Darling Girl Pucker Paints for long, so here are my latest four! I'm working on a masterpost with swatches of all of the shades I have as well, so keep your eyes peeled for that soon.

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Ambrosia Salad, The Spice, Eat You Up and Poison Slapple Swatches & Review

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Ambrosia Salad, The Spice, Eat You Up and Poison Slapple Swatches & Review

Pucker Paints come in a 5ml tube with a regular doefoot applicator and custom artwork adorning the cap or the tube exterior in newer batches. The width of the tube seems to have changed for some of the newer batches/releases as you can see in the top photo of all the tubes that The Spice is slimmer than the rest. Newer colours/batches have the name of the lipstick on the bottom of the tube (ideal for anyone who stores their lipsticks upside down, like me!) while older ones have it on a sticker on the side of the tube.

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Ambrosia Salad, The Spice, Eat You Up and Poison Slapple Swatches & Review

Formula overview:
Darling Girl Pucker Paints have lovely colour pay off, with a thin, creamy texture - definitely not as watery as Lime Crime Velvetines, nor as viscous and mousse-like as NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams or Australis Velourlips. It's a very easy to control formula which dries down to a matte finish quickly, while still giving you enough time to outline and fill in your lips without it bunching up on itself.

With most shades, I applied two thin layers, concentrating on creating the lip shape and lightly filling in on the first, before completely filling in and evening out on the second. Be sure to leave a couple of minutes between layers - I like to keep my lips parted until the lipstick has fully set because until then, it retains a slight tackiness that will cause it to grab at itself and pull patches of pigment away if allowed to touch (this is pretty common for these types of formulas). If you're not keen on waiting to layer, this formula also works wonderfully with my friend Teigan's application method - dip into the tube, apply to left half of lower lip, dip again, apply to right half of lower lip, etc (check out her blog, Miss T's Makeup).

The Pucker Paints do not cling to the lips or highlight every crevice the way some liquid matte formulas do and they're only minimally drying towards the end of wear. Some can appear chalky upon first application, or the shimmer (where present) can be a bit hidden, in which case lightly rubbing a finger or cotton bud over your lips can remedy that. There's no tackiness at all once dry, just a smooth, powder-soft finish.

The scent for all of the Pucker Paints is being phased from peppermint to buttercream cupcake based on customer feedback (peppermint essential oil can be an irritant for some and just a general deal breaker for others). Because of this I have a mixture of scents across these shades, I assume as a result of the scent changing as each batch is used up and new shades are created. I like both scents and find the peppermint super subtle (as opposed to the minty blast of products like Revlon Colorburst Balms), so no complaints here.

Ambrosia Salad

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Ambrosia Salad Swatches & Review

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Ambrosia Salad Swatches & Review

Ambrosia Salad is a 'coral leaning orange with gold pearl sparkles'. It's part of the Snow in Love collection, which is being retired until the next holiday season at the end of January, so if you love it I highly recommend snapping it up now! I absolutely adore this colour and have already worn it several times. The gold sheen gives it the most gorgeous dimension, plus it wears like iron - seven hours with a little drying by the end, but heck, for seven hours wear I can live with that!

The Spice

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - The Spice Swatches & Review

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - The Spice Swatches & Review

The Spice is described as a 'pinky chestnut'. It has mostly opaque colour pay off, isn't drying and has a respectable five hour wear time. If you're still loving the rosy brown lip trend like I am, definitely check out The Spice. It's different enough to shades like Maybelline Touch of Spice and MAC Whirl to keep me crushing on this colour family but not at all dupey.

Eat You Up

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Eat You Up Swatches & Review

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Eat You Up Swatches & Review

Eat You Up is a reddy orange with heavy copper shimmer and was part of a recent Hello Waffle Visage box. It was made available on the Darling Girl site for a limited time after that, though sadly it's gone now. I live in hope that Susan will bring it back one day! I could definitely do with a back up of this fiery beauty.
I already like the Pucker Paint formula (you may have gathered by now, heehee), but the consistency of Eat You Up and Poison Slapple is better than ever. It's slightly creamier and the opacity is awesome. Eat You Up lasted a bit over five hours on me and was not drying.

Poision Slapple

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Poision Slapple Swatches & Review

Poison Slapple is a 'coppery red with a pearl finish and some hidden pink holo-sparkle'. It's from a How I Met Your Mother themed Thanksgiving duo and you can still grab it on the site here. I'm not sure how I feel about this colour on me but the formula is such a pleasure to work with and I love the holo-sparkle. Plus the name references one of my favourite How I Met Your Mother episodes (and is really making me want to binge watch the whole series again)! This one lasted five hours on me and was not drying.

Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Poision Slapple Swatches & Review

What I liked:
  • Great colour pay off
  • Easy to apply
  • Wore between five and seven hours
  • The Spice, Eat You Up and Poison Slapple were not drying
What I didn't like:
  • Ambrosia Salad was slightly drying

Innocent + Twisted Alchemy I+T Alchemists Subscription May 2015 Swatches & Review

Last May I decided to sign up for the Innocent + Twisted Alchemy I+T Alchemists subscription as a birthday treat to myself. And I've been getting it ever since and loving it, but I haven't been blogging about it because I have really struggled with eyeshadows the past year! I buy them, I swatch them, but my routine has become such that I tend to stick to neutrals for swatching sessions so that I know that the twenty or so lip products I swatch in one of those sessions will likely go with them. Meanwhile, the rest went neglected. I'd become so ingrained in my routine that I'd entirely forgotten that it was a bed of my own making! My swatching sessions began when my children were smaller and far less independent, so I'd try and do a bunch at once a few times a week, usually after they'd gone to bed. They're now at ages where I can actually sit down and put on makeup each day if I want to but still it's taken me a stupidly long time to realise it! But the penny has finally dropped and that means a lot of catching up, so you'll see a lot more eyeshadow features going forward.

I+T Alchemists is a monthly subscription from one of my favourite indie brands, Innocent + Twisted Alchemy. It comes with three Innocent + Twisted shades which are exclusive to the subscription (although overstock is occasionally sold in the store for anyone who missed out) and a surprise selection of bonuses from guest indie brands. Whether you're a fan of the brand or just want to try out a bunch of indies, it's a really a fun subscription service which delivers great value and I look forward to it each month!

The sample size (which is what I have) is $12USD per month within the US or $16USD internationally. There's also a full size version which is $18USD per month in the US or $22USD internationally. All of those prices include shipping, so it's a pretty sweet deal, particularly when the additional samples are often very generous.

The theme for the May 2015 subscription is the Alien movie franchise, which as someone who is perpetually terrible with horror movies, I have limited experience with. In fact, the only time I've seen an Alien movie was when Alien VS Predator was in theatres way back in 2004. I went with my crush and his friend in an effort to seem cool and totally not at all scared of horror movies, or at least go for the "I'm scared, can I hold your hand?" move. It didn't work at all, I was far too busy hiding behind my hands from the gorefest! I'm just not cut out for horror movies, to my husband's equal chagrin and delight (it's an endless source of teasing). But that hasn't stopped me enjoying the shades in this wee collection! And before you think I'm too mean showing you these, all three of the Innocent + Twisted shades are still available on the website.

Innocent + Twisted Alchemy I+T Alchemists Subscription May 2015 Swatches & Review

Linda, the owner of Innocent + Twisted Alchemy, does a lot of the artwork for her labels herself, which I really love. For this theme however she turned to her brother to draw the Alien design and it came out very cool! The sample jars are packed full in 3g jars.

The Innocent + Twisted formula is one of the best ones around; while some indies apply sheerly alone and really need a sticky base to pop, Innocent + Twisted Alchemy eyeshadows are wonderfully pigmented and easy to work with on their own. I do still like to use a sticky base most of the time for maximum sparkle and duochrome action, but it's nice to know that they can be hastily swept on the lids as you're running out the door and they're still going to look good.

All eyeshadow swatches in this post are done two ways: applied on bare skin on the left hand side and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, a sticky eyeshadow base which maximises colour intensity and sparkle, on the right. This is so you can see how they perform both ways. I take all of my photos with daylight bulbs for colour accuracy.

Face Hugger is a soft golden brown with subtle green sheen and red sparks. The base colour is warm, but when you see it on the lid, as I've used it before, the green shimmer gives it a slightly cooler, lemon hue. It's quite the chameleon!

Ripley is described as a warm brown with green sheen, and it definitely blends out that way even though it looks quite cool in my arm swatch. I must pull this out again and try it as a lid shade.

I paired Ripley and Face Hugger together for this look, on the crease and lid respectively, with Ripley also used on the lower lashline. The LORAC Pro palette was used for the rest and the lashes are Ardell #110s.

Drone is a charcoal grey with green shimmer which gives it a dark teal look overall. Super shimmery and very well pigmented, this is a nice one for lining or for smokey eyes.

I used Drone on the lower lashine here with Breaking Down (from the June subscription) on the lid and Chirp Cosmetics Rainbow Bit (July bonus item) on the inner corner. The Chi Chi Extravaganza palette was used for the rest.

Siren Song Cosmetics isn't a brand I'd heard of before (and sadly it's now closed up shop!) so I was curious and excited to try Our Story out. It's a dark blue with green undertones and a heap of rainbow sparkles which make it absolutely mesmerising over a sticky base. Unfortunately something about some blue and green pigments make them stain the skin horribly if you apply them over sticky bases and Our Story definitely suffered from this - you can kind of see that the edges of the swatch on the right are blurred. That's the stain peeking through! I had a teal stripe on my arm for about a week after swatching this, so I wasn't really game to encourage that on my eyes, sparkle or no sparkle. Instead I applied it without any primer or base on the lower lashline in the look below and it still held up well in terms of colour pay off and blendability. Shame about all that wasted pretty glitter though!

Here I've used Siren Song Our Story on the lower lashline, with Innocent + Twisted Alchemy Tragic Chord (no longer available) on the lid and the LORAC Pro Palette for the rest. The lashes are these ones from Born Pretty Store.

One of my other all time favourite indies appearing in my first I+T Alchemists subs definitely felt like a sign from the universe! :D Femme Fatale Xenomorph is a shade that was created exclusively for this subscription and is no longer available, but Night in Werewolf Woods, another Femme Fatale shade is very similar. It's a dark indigo purple with a strong copper shift and a thin but blendable texture. I puzzled over how to wear this for the longest time before I finally grabbed a bunch of shades and just threw them on with very little planning. I should let loose more often because this wound up being one of my favourite eye looks I did in 2015!

I used Xenomorph on the outer third of the lid, lightly along the outer V and then over smudged out black liner on the lower lashline here. I also used Innocent + Twisted Alchemy Movie Fun (October 2015 sub) on the centre of the lid and Notoriously Morbid Gasoline. Blow Torch. No Problem. on the inner half of the lid. Blending and highlighting shades were all from the LORAC Pro palette and the lashes are Ardell Wispies

Not sure why that first swatch looks so weird, sorry! The second one is more colour accurate. Aromaleigh Quarantine is also a shade exclusively created for the May 2015 subscription  and it's a beautiful tarnished olive with strong shimmer and golden sparkles. Again, no complaints about texture and opacity here! It may look a little subdued in the bare skin swatch on the left but I wore it without any primers or bases on the lower lashline in the makeup look below and it held its own perfectly.

Here I've used Aromaleigh Quarantine on the outer half of the lid and lower lashline and Femme Fatale Hall of Images on the inner half of the lid. I used Chirp Cosmetics Rainbow Bit (July bonus item) lightly on the inner corner and the LORAC Nude Skinny palette for the rest.

Limnit Extraterrestrial

Limnit Lipsticks - Extraterrestrial lipstick swatches & review'}

Limnit Lipsticks Extraterrestrial is a warm brown semi matte shade with a name perfectly suited to the theme for the May subscription. I've been really digging these warm nineties brown lipsticks shades over the past year or so and I hadn't tried Limnit prior, so I was quite excited to try this. The formula is lightly creamy and super opaque, requiring minimal effort to apply, even when using a lip brush and the jar version. Speaking of these little jars, they retail for $4.60USD for 0.07oz from Limnit's Etsy store, plus there are full size tubes available too. I'm definitely keen to try more shades now!

While finding gifs for this post I found myself reading up on the Alien wiki to understand the references, which has convinced my husband that we need to watch the Alien movies now. Help!!

If you're keen on trying out the I+T Alchemists subscription, you can sign up here, or check the store for one month trial subscriptions. I also recommend joining the Innocent + Twisted Atelier Facebook group for sneak peeks and news.
